0magsoe.jpgIn 2006 i've deleted tons of blogs from my feedreader and added new ones. Two reasons for that: my interests have slightly evolved and some really cool blogs have emerged last year. Here's a selection of places you might want to check if you're into art, activism, tech and design.

I'm not mentioning my old favourites, just the new additions. And i welcome any suggestion.

Continue reading...

* Activism

microRevolt reBlog: when craft, labor activism and technology meet.
ptk_blogzine: might be the best blog about "cyberculture" and activism i've discovered this year. In spanish.

* Architecture

Architectures of Control in Design: How products increasingly control and restrict your behaviour.
variable_environment: mobility, interaction city and crossovers.

* Art

placeboKatz. André's fun and light place is often where is start the day. Just wonder whether he ever takes time to sleep.
Off Center, a look Inside the Walker Art Center.
trendbeheer: Jeroen and his friends visit openings and share it so many images and links that you don't feel that you should know dutch to enjoy it.
Vvork: raise your hand who doesn't like this one! i have no idea where they find all these cool stuff and that what sometimes make me angry at them: share your sources!
organism: making art with living systems. One of my absolute favs!
Curating.info: curating contemporary art.
Art Fag City: New York art news, reviews and gossip.

* Design

Interaction Design: thoughts and discoveries of Reto Wettach on innovative interfaces, physical interaction design.
Convivio network: key words would be interaction design, european and updated by Fabio Sergio.
Digital Experience, a blog on interaction and experience design.
experientia: experience design, user experience and innovation.
plus six: physical/tangible computing, expressive/performance interfaces, social aspects of hardware and software (including open source), music technology, etc.
Pulse Laser: on interactions and the new world of product.

* Technology

InternetActu: by far my favourite resource to keep up with what's going on in the tech world. It's not about getting the scoop on the latest gadget or patent, it's about putting it in context and reflecting on its possible impact(s) on society, politics, ethics, etc. Learn french.
TOUCH: Timo Arnall and Anne Galloway about user-centred applications for RFID and Near Field Communication.

* Miscellaneous

The reBlog of performers artificial eye.
Mr Watson explores the relationship between the physical form and social action and the potential for interaction created by technology.
twenty1f: fashion for the 21st century.
Heraiz Soto & Co blog, it's a communication agency or something like that but the guys & gals who post there are smart and nice and have good taste. It looks like it's a blog in spanish. Well... it is. Just open an entry, scroll down and you have the text in english. Worth the trouble.
FABRICA blog: unfortunately it's only a shadow of what it used to be so good when Ann was piloting it.
Empty Streets: activism, art, psychogeography, etc.
Playpen: Education, Interactivity, Play and Emerging Cultural Forms from Andy Polaine.

* Let's call it new media art?

abstractmachine: Douglas Edric Stanley: if Douglas wasn't too busy being a talented artist and researcher he'd be Top Dog in the new media art blogosphere.
varnelis: research blog exploring the intersection of architecture, new media, network culture, and contemporary urbanism.
Home Made Labor: mentioned yesterday. It's in german and covers games, music, and media art.

* A few words about magazines.
Mark Magazine. If you thought architecture couldn't be sexier than Brad Pitt (not my taste but apparently the guy charms everyone) go fetch Mark.
The best magazine -imho- is Art Review. Used to be a bit dusty but its content and design have been re-vamped a few months ago. Sadly, i'm one of the contributors and as i hate reading myself on paper (can't update, nor modify the text and i'd rather write in a language i can at least master), i have to tear off the offending pages before i can enjoy it.
Drome magazine is in italian. Each issue revolves around a theme (nomadism, transformation, madness, game, etc.) and shows the way contemporary artists explore it.
ICON used to be my favourite. It is still cool. But being only cool when you pretend to be something else is not good enough.

I think for a lot of people out there, we-make-money-not-art.com is the link we all bookmarked top of the list in 2006.

wonderful list; some of these I already knew, some are new to me and I thank you for suggesting them.

we-make-money-not-art is still one of the most interesting blogs on internet since its birth, I could not start the day without. Hope you'll keep going on!

All best & good year

we-make-money-not-art.com has been at the top of my list for sometime. I, too, am flattered to be on your list of reads. Shared love all round for 2007 I reckon!
