The Ball State Museum of Art is running a pretty appealing exhibition called Engaging Technology: A History and Future of Intermedia. I've had my share of Intermedia ("intermedia"? That's a new one to me), interactive art, new media art exhibition and festivals, thank you but this one features works that show how technology-based art emerged in the 1960s and how it will progress into the future. I've been dreaming for a long time of an exhibition that would do just that: put the field in perspective instead of boosting only the very latest and coolest art works.
The artists selected include Richard Bloes, Adam Brown and Andrew Fagg, Gary Hill, Dick Higgins, Jenny Holzer, Golan Levin, Nam June Paik, and Alan Rath. The exhibition is free and closes March 11. Via artdaily and Ball State Daily News. |

ahoi régine,
just in case you were not kidding mentioning intermedia as so far unfamiliar to you (in terms of the term, not the practice at least):
the term was prominently introduced (if not coined) by dick higgins in the mid-sixties, see his essay
'synesthesia and intersenses: intermedia' from 1965, published in 1966 - and available online via the always wonderful ubu.web
www.ubu.com/papers/higgins_intermedia.html
it became quite popular in the following decade, in performance art, fluxus a.o.
- not necessarily associated with high tech electronic media, yet also in use in related circles (see also expanded cinema and the like).
