0worldvbkj.jpgAs a (very absent) contributor of World Changing, i should have done a better job at promoting one of the most inspiring books you might get your hands on these days: Worldchanging: A User's Guide for the 21st Century. The book is a groundbreaking compendium of the most innovative solutions, ideas and inventions emerging today for building a sustainable, livable, prosperous future.

I'm still waiting for my copy to arrive but i have no doubt the book is well worth your attention and $$$. World Changing has a very tiny promotion budget. All they have is you. Help them hack the publishing system.

What Alex Steffen proposes is to put, through coordinated action, the Worldchanging book on the top of the Amazon bestseller list, one of the main ways booksellers and media determine which books they should pay attention to.

Here's what they're suggesting:

On November first, at eleven minutes after eleven a.m. (Pacific time), please go to Amazon and buy the book.

Better still, go to Amazon and buy the book on the first, and in the meantime blog, email, talk up the book and do whatever you can to encourage everyone who you think cares about sustainability, innovation and social change, everyone who wants more solutions in the public debate, to join you on buying the book on 11/1 at 11:11 a.m. Please help spread the word.

Wish I could, but I pre-ordered my copy a week or two back from Chapters and it's already shipped. Definitely the prefered situation to be in though. ;-)

well, i do not-at-all think that it's bad to use neo-capitalistic means, like amazon's rating system, to spread a good idea. but i really find it hard to distinguish between a real good cause and a clever marketing idea.

concerning this peticular project & book: i believe you that its content could be rated "good" in my personal system of values. and i too, believe that my €€€ would well be spend on the lecture. but i really do think that until i have read it myself, it would be really stupid to join the let's-get-it-on-top-of-the-charts campaign. just to be part of the "movement". for me it seems more honest to buy a red iPod at the moment.

AND:
i'd hate myself if it turns out this was just some arts students project who's actually demonstrating web 2.0 methods of net-propaganda and how they can be misused.

and i already tend to hate myself for not being the guy behind the million-pixel-add-page.

the amazon "buying attack" is a nice concept though. so thanks for writing about it anyway.
