Carhood

Designmai is over and i have tons of stories i hope to find the time to blog: Carhood, by Dutch designer Lieke Ypma, gives car drivers a proper channel to talk to each other while driving.
The wireless LAN network enables car-to-car communication with the cars alongside (the system works over 300 meters distance). If a car driver meets a friend or neighbour on the streets, he can call the other car, by activating the sensors in the roof. A car-to-car connection, similar to an open phone connection, is created. The idea takes advantage of one of the car-to-car consortium projects that would see European vehicle manufacturers equip all future cars with WLAN enabling technology. Its first aim is to enhance safety on the streets, although the system will be capable of performing many more applications, such as carhood. |

Could it be dangerous?!
can't see how it could be more dangerous than talking with your friend sitting next to you in the car.
To use mobile phone in the car can be dangerous, maybe carhood could be more similar to it.
Well... sure it depends on the working.
Carhood is designed to talk to friends, neighbors and other people who drive directly next to you. I am sure it will be less risky to talk to someone who takes part in the same traffic , than to your mom who is telling dramatic stories on the phone.

This is a nice idea, until you consider people driving in less than ideal ways to keep that 300m connection open to finish their chat.
Or worse, you end up with a street racing conviction and jail time because you are keeping pace with another vehicle for reasons other than traffic flow.
