I've been invited to curate the Digital Art a la Carte section for the upcoming Sonar, a festival of advanced music and multimedia art (Gosh! What an honour! i never dreamed i'd be asked anything of the kind when i started blogging a couple of years ago.) The Digital Art a la Carte section consists of works related to a topic that Sónar considers specially interesting that year. It can be an interactive software, a website, or a video; any piece that can be shown on a computer screen.

This year's theme is GOOGLE EARTH AND GOOGLE MAPS HACKS.

I have a couple of ideas so far but i'm sure many of you have much more knowledge on the subject than me. So if you can think of any creative, surprising and fun to spend time with project that use Google Earth or Google Earth as a tool, please comment on this post or drop me a line at reg at we-make-money-not-art "place the dot here" com.

Sonar will take place in Barcelona, on June 15 to 17.

Congratulations!
The Sonar is so nice - definitely the best festival of its kind.

Well deserved!

Nice. I just bought my ticket to go to the festival -- I'll be on the lookout for your section.

Sorry, I have visited Sonar in 2005 and 2004, Nice to be in Barcelona but don't go for the music to sonar, every year almost the same artists like Jeff Mills, Richie H. etc etc

bravo régine ! cheers, j*b

Here is a good resource for ideas on what the technology can do

Goggle Maps Mania

A map of participants like the one designed by MusicStrands, though it is in Flash, could be nice also

MusicStrands Interactive World Map

the festival is in mid june, but because catalogues have to be printed, i'd say that the deadline is asap

To Freddy: I don't think many people get a chance to listen to Richie Hawtin and Jeff Mills very often :-) Anyway there are many more artists playing during the 3 days of the festival, so why bash them for having big headliners?

Here's the scariest one I've found:

http://mapsexoffenders.com/

Does exactly what it says, and it includes their pictures.

Creepy.

hi regine,
i'm working on a GE site called from above, dedicated to tracking down beatiful imagery found on GE. Not a hack, and I'm not even sure it's Sónar-worthy, but email me if you want to chat. Site not live yet, but I have tons of content ready.
