Mapping pickpockets and dog poo
|
Chinastic (via Virtual China) reports on a map, maintained by local citizens, which tells you which areas in the Chinese city of Hangzhou to avoid if you want to avoid purse snatchers. On the online map developed by Sun Haitao, citizens mark the spots where they've run across pickpockets.
Talking about mapping nuisances... Yesterday i listened to and wrote about the presentation of Pooptopia, a humourous idea of location-based service designed for "Mobile Poop Awareness and Avoidance System."
The service empowers dog-owners, poo-haters and poo-hunters to easily mark the location of pet waste for pick-up by the Pooptopia team and city sanitation workers.

Presumably to make the pickpocket map accurate people would have to also report where they didn't find trouble and use this to calculate a percentage chance, after all, a busy tourist spot will have more pickpockets, but you maybe more likely to get your bag snatched down an indescrpt alley.
