Palast is no more but Andreas Muhs and Oliver Elser are documenting on restmodern and flickr postwar modern buildings which were built between 1945 and 1989 and are being gradually erased from Berlin's topography.

This one is for Monika!

p.s. does any reader know of a blog/webpage/flickr set that catalogs images of döner kebab snacks in Berlin?

döner snacks in berlin?
there is a card-game called "döner quartett". it is a good selection of döner bars and it has a very funny way of categorizing them (amount of brothers, distance to istanbul, etc).i think you would love it. i have not found an english review but this webside:
http://www.doenerberlin.de/ (if you are interested: i work in bookstore, it should be easy for me to get one sent to you.)
and have you ever heard about the parties at the dönerlounge?? there was a dönerkulturverein which made great parties inside a döner snack bar....: doenerlounge.de
somehow berlin really loves it´s döner-culture!
cheers, ragna

dönerlounge! Doener cards! can't believe it. thanks a lot

Früchte aus aller Welt, RO 80 auf Garagendach, and 70's "kunst am Bau" art...this is still there?
Wenders was already nostalgic about this stuff in the 70's, I hated him for that. But its gorgeous, in some way more real than what you get know...Why is "FEELING" so strong here? Often signs of a desperately positive, modern, attitude, and even more charming in its decay...something very far from NOW.

I lived in Berlin for 3 months last summer and practically lived off kebabs and becks. wish I would have cataloged all the kebab stands I saw!

oh thank youuuu!! :)
lovely lovely homesickness..
i am always amazed how beautiful ugly pretty Berlin looks from the other side of the world

If you're fluent with german, you can find more ressources trying the local search on it: google.com/search?hl=de&q=d%C3%B6ner (the umlaut might be an encoding-hazard). We are mad about doener, that's for sure!

pretty ugly

wasn't it rather ugly-ugly? kiddin'

n.

that project is inredibly noteworthy cuz a) it does *not* reinforce Berlin stereotypes b) does not pretend to be artsy, 'leet, "post-something" or any of the shitty slogans that get smeared all over the web constantly and.. well i have to admit it, lived here all of my life. i really see my environment in some of these images,.. ironically, lots of the stuff they photograph is situated in districts the stereotypical (there you have it., it's eating my brain, too) Neuberliner never visits.
so take your döner and your becks elsewhere and leave us the hell in peace.

but, this nice buildings you can find in all german citys but.. also in UK
