Sun to light bus stops at night in London

The sun will keep London's bus stops lit throughout the night thanks a new solar power system being introduced.

The energy stored in batteries during the day will illuminate both timetables and the stops so drivers can spot queuing passengers easily. The system has been proven to work even in the UK's gloomiest weather conditions and will help to make passengers feel safer while they wait for their bus.

Some 1,400 stops will be fitted with the technology every year for the next five years.
