Sonic dress

Sonic Fabric is made of textile woven from 50% pre-recorded audiotape and 50% cotton. Originally designed as a piece of conceptual art that would merely be looked at, it was discovered that the audiotape retained its magnetism throughout the weaving process, and the fabric could actually be "played" by running a tape head over it.
A custom dress made for Phish percussionist Jon Fishman was worn and "played" live on stage using specialized tape head gloves during a concert in april 2004. Author: Alyce Santoro. |
