Gravity and Resistance
|
Japanese artists Seiko Mikami and Sota Ichikawa's work, Gravity and Resistance - Gravicells is so far the most amazing piece i've seen here. It's esthetically magic and it's also totally fascinating to try to understand what's happening in the space.
The floor is made of some 225 units of cell-like grids with built-in sensors. All movements, weight and changes of visitors are measured and transformed into light (LED) and geometrical images projected ont the wall and into sound, so that the whole space develops or changes in this interactive installation. The installation is surveyed by GPS satellites, so it has the observatory point outside the earth. The idea is that the whole system should make you aware of gravity and resistance, giving you a new perception of the body. But waht is also very engaging is to see how these effects interact with those of other participants.
