elf – electronic-life-forms, Pascal Glissmann and Martina Höfflin, is a two-part installation. The first part shows photographs of a natural environment populated with small analog solar robots, the elfs. The artificial creatures look acceptable and even comfortable in nature.

In the second part of the installation, Weck-Preserving-Glasses function as prisons for the elfs, reminding us of our childhood exploration of the world around us. Trapped in the glasses, the elfs still get their needed solar energy, but also use their chaotic sounds and movements to summon the attention of the outside world.

Elfs are life forms that heve transistors, capacitors, resistors instead of organs, DNA or a brain.
Like other creatures, they live while the sunlight is there and produce sounds and motion out of light (some kind of photosynthesis).
