Big Brother TV village
|
Next spring, Germany's version of the Big Brother reality TV show will be aired from a small town mimicking The Truman Show concept. In the movie, a man called Truman is the subject of a 24-hour TV programme that monitors his every living moment for a worldwide audience.
In the city currently being built outside Hamburg, there will be a forest, a church tower, shops, schools and businesses. Contestants will live there for years (well, as long as the show draws audience); falling in love, going to school, even getting married. The producers hope to lure in businesses to employ them, teachers to teach them and doctors to care for the sick. Producer Rainert Laux said they would handpick the "very best group, all unemployed" and "hope couples will get pregnant and family groups will interact with all the usual family frictions." The BB city will allow fans of the show visits to the community to see the residents just as if they were visiting a zoo. As today is not April 1st and the news comes from The Guardian, it might not be a hoax. But still, I find it difficult to believe. |

I'm quite impressed! As you wrote this dont seems to be a "bufala" (italian word for hoax) and i have to admit that i'm curious and fashinated about that.
What is ur opinion?
I heard about it on French radio Europe 1 yesterday. I think it's true. Wild.
Ciao Frangino,
I think it is difficult to believe but true. Strangely I've never seen any reality show in my life, but i keep reading about it.
I remember when it all started, something like 4 years ago, I was In Paris listening to very posh intellectuals who were saying that Big Brother was preposterous and shocking (still they were looking at it!), that it wouldn't last. But it did.
I published this one because it made me think of an old TV series called "The Prisonner", the hero was trapped in a village called "The Village" and his every move were observed. It's another case of reality getting wilder than fiction. Except that this time people are willing to be trapped, tracked and observed.
What amazes me in the case of Big Brother is how far people are ready to go just to be on TV. But I guess you're living in Italy (just like me, but only for 3 years), so you probably know that better than me (I'm thinking about the girls queuing to become a TV show girl)
It must be increasingly difficult to be a science-fiction writer what with all those Tv shows and new technologies that go beyond their imagination.
