Halloween egg sale ban for teenagers

British supermarket chain Asda has warned its staff to be extra vigilant in spotting youths buying eggs, traditionally used as missiles, in the run-up to Halloween.

"We've said that we're going to be more vigilant and we're not going to be selling eggs to under-16s," said an Asda spokeswoman. It is not a blanket ban, though.

"Our staff will use their discretion. If a 15-year-old goes into one of our stores and buys a pint of milk, a loaf of bread and a packet of eggs then that seems normal."

This week, police forces will start a seasonal crackdown urging shopkeepers not to sell eggs, flour or paint to teenagers.

Blackpool Magistrates banned the 17-year-old from entering Kirkham, Lancashire, at night because of the nuisance caused by his egg-throwing antics.
