Mia in Popgadget feels sorry for the Touchless Trash Can that seldom gets your hands on it as an infrared sensor detects when your hand or a piece of trash is 6 inches away and tells it when to open and close its mouth. I propose an alternative to bring back life in the kitchen of environmentally minded urbanites: the worm bin. Worms munch kitchen scraps into rich, soil-like humus and help reduce the amount of waste reaching landfills.
"Here were have some of the planet's most lowly creatures taking some of our most repulsive waste and turning it into fertilizer," said Mary Appelhof, the author of Worms Eat My Garbage. "I realized that the more worms I raised or encouraged others to raise, the world would be a better place."
