Recycled and artistic hardware

The exhibition Human-Machine Interface presents works that break into commonly used systems (a TV set, a printer or a computer), deconstruct it, and build a new system out of it. The devices aquire new features, but keep the aesthetics and some functionality of the originals.

* Paul Slocum (USA) reprogrammed the firmware of 1985 Epson LQ-500 printers to turn them into musical instruments: dot_matrix_synth .

* Roger Wigger and Doma Smoljo (Switzerland) transformed a pc into a sound sequencer called Hardware Orchestra.

* Aristarkh Chernyshev (Russia) made a real-virtuality-helmet that allow users to see a real world in the virtual form.

The exhibition is part of the read_me 2004 software art festival, in Aarhus, Denmark on the 23-27 of August 2004.
