Prototypes, a series of sculptures made in the '60s by Walter Pichler, explore the overlap of architecture/design/sculpture. The materials (polyester, Plexiglas, PVC, aluminum, inflatable elements) used by the Austrian artist were new at the time. Pieces such as TV Helmet (image above) and the Small Room (Prototype 4) thematize new media such as TV and telecommunications. Related: Surroundings Defend System. i find it amazing that it was designed in the 60s!
perhaps it's not the easiest way of watching tv though...
un saludo,
i love it. wish it was made more public. like paul i was amazed that it was done during the 60s.
i do agree with you two. the work has a very contemporary look and the concept is the same that keeps on being explored these years at new media art festivals. i wish i could see that one in an exhibition one day or at least find more information about Pichlair's Prototypes.
Poor man must have developed a headache for his art.
He looks a bit like Sir Galahead.
