Friends, Hosts and Parasite, by Mouna Andraos and Sonali Sridhar (who developed the Balance/Imbalance shirt), explores possible symbiotic relationships between people and technology.

They designed a jacket inhabited by a Printed Organism, that appears and grows on the garment only when it is being worn for long enough.

When you wear the cotton jacket, the pattern, like a parasite or a wine plant, slowly comes to life as color until it reaches full visual bloom. When the jacket is removed again, the organism slowly dies out until it fades into a seamless printed pattern. The human body acts as a host and provides a support structure for the organism to grow on.

The printed organism is created using thermo-chromic inks and is electrically controlled through conductive wire threaded directly on the fabric of the jacket.

Mouna Andraos is participating to Electronic Etherealism and the Digital Perfume, a 2 day event organized by Otto Von Busch and Despina Papadopoulos that explores the intersections of fashion, technology and creativity and energises dialogue & a community of practitioners and thinkers.

Friday, October 27th: 4:00 - 8:00 pm, Digital Arts Department, Pratt Institute, Brooklyn.

What happens to the bacteria after you wash this cloth with your standard laundry soap (with bacteria cleaning action)? If the wash instruction forbids the buyer to use antibactirial laundry soap, would you wear this knowing some harmful bacteria could be coexisting with this organism?

try to wear this on a plane

That is one fancey shmancey explaination for some heat sensitive ink.

If you tried to come into Australia with this, customs would shoot you on sight. Or at least fine you a quater of a million dollars.

Does anyone remember the Global Hypercolour T-shirts that were really popular in the late 1980s? They changed color when they warmed up, in a similar manner to this jacket. Trouble was, you looked really silly when your armpits were a different colour to the rest of your top.

OH no..... please.. please.. dont let it be the 'hyper-colour' generation all over again!

My cousin had a jacket like this in the 80's. It was white and in the cold it would turn hot pink.

uhm

@tatu
i hope you were joking, because if you really think that is an organism, i worry about you. it is heat sensitive ink as hooditty stated, not bacteria lol. it would be interesting to see the "washability" of this garment considering the conductive coils in it. wonder if it has special wash instructions?

Reminds me of those Global Hypercolour t-shirts that were about 15 years ago. I remebember you could save up 'skip' packet tokens and get them for a couple of quid. Could propose this for the jacket! Maybe not! I want one!
