'Head On' by Cai Guo-Qiang at the Deutsche Guggenheim in Berlin. The installation consists of 99 life-sized wolves, fabricated from painted sheepskins and stuffed with hay and metal wires, barreling in a continous stream towards - and into - a glass wall. Only the first ones crash into it, but the pack chases after the leader.

Now that, is art.
Haha wolves in sheeps clothing
thats pretty sweet though.
i digg it.
unbelievable.. very cool.
someone find a high res link....
-r
I guess we are running out of ideas for art.....
lets look at the combination we have here, Based on the name it's an East asian (looks chinese) "artist", in Berlin, creating a display of 99 wolves crashing into a glass wall... props for teh variety?
"I guess we are running out of ideas for art...."
How so? I don't think it's possible to ever run out of artistic ideas.
Very interesting. I normally hate the "modern art", but I love it when i find a message in it. And I find a very interesting message in the wolfs wearing sheepskins and crashing into the wall. I think it is a desire of what he wants to happen to the many wolves we have in our society wearing sheepskins.
Very good.
Was he wearing my favorite belt while creating it?

Such pain is unbearable. Perhaps they should have the wolves jump into a pile of yummy sheep.
"I guess we are running out of ideas for art....."
..yeah, and there you were, right at the very end of it all.
I looove it =D
Gay.
and the point is?????
Looks like "thug life soldier riding for pac" just didn't "get it". Pity.
One of the best depictions of the GOP I have ever seen.
These are rather sheep in wolves clothing.
artist has a childish and cruel sense of humour.
The wolves are interpretations of humans. Wolves dressed in sheeps clothing are world leaders or power people leading us to the destined self desruction of mankind......FIGHT THE POWER hence us hence destined self detruction.
Is that where you guys stop with art? You think everything is some gigantic allegory, or a puzzle that you're supposed to figure out? Fuck - Art education is shit these days. This, or any other exhibit, is something that you're supposed to experience. Don't get so wrapped up in the symbolism.
99 wolves leaping into a wall,
99 into a wall.
One falls down, a pile on the ground.
98 wolves leaping into a wall.
this thing is so totally cool, it is not at all a symbol that we are running out of ideas for art, but exactly the opposite
An illustration of the mindless tendency to 'follow'.
Not even one wolf thinks for itself and steps out of the stream.

@ all who's reaction is "WTF?" or "WTP?":
Don't be a wolf.
Hey itomato,
Nice comment :)
I wish I could zip over to Berlin to check this out, but alas....Australia is too far away and costs too much $$$ for me currently.
This only just got into the paper at where i live!!!!! LOL!
And it is quite amazing.
This is an advertisement for a firewall...
Justin you are a fucking wiener! Of course i dont think every piece of art is a puzzle. Why is it when people react angrily they generalise. Your emotions are clouding your judgements.
Yeh experience art but the symbols are there to provoke thought!
Wolves, sheeps clothing what the fuck do you think this could mean? Nothing much! lets just stroke their fur and experience their balls in our mouths.
I have an extension of my interpretation, i think war is the underlying subject. Also one of the hurt or dead wolves on the floor at the front is smiling i think hes a suicde bomber hes happy to sacrifice himself because hes been mind fucked by a sheep in wolves clothing.
Join the Army! Be all you can be!
And if you think my comments are whack why dont you look at the article on the subconcious art of graffiti removal!
Apply directly to the forehead. Reminds me of Santa's reindeer taking off.
Does this remind anyone else of the Bush administration? The leader does something stupid, and everyone else keeps running along behind him doing the same stupid things not trying to improve our situation/government/economy? Truly it is a work of art...a reminder of Government...
reply to Justin:
There's not need to be so sanctimonious about your definition of how "art" should be experienced. Part of what art is is the search for deeper meanings in life, a way of expressing what cannot be adequately expressed in words. Symbolism is just as much a part of art as aesthetics. I agree that assertions of a concrete allegorical meaning is reading a bit too much into it, but good art should make people think and feel. The meanings that people find are more often in themselves than the art.
I think it's funny how everybody sees what they want to see. There isn't anything in the article saying that the artist is alluding to war or Bush or anything else. The wolf in sheep's clothing could be a metaphor, or it could be that WOLVES ARE ENDANGERED AND SHEEP ARE DOMESTICATED LIVESTOCK so the artist was using the materials that were simply available. Ultimately, this piece is about 99 wolves, crashing into a wall. Whether it has any subliminal meaning, ask the artist.
Very impressive!
I was thinking if it were arranged differently it could show a single wolf (but it would look like 99 different frames) crashing into a glass wall. However this just looks like 99 wolves crashing into a glass wall simultaneously, which will also do.
"99 wolves, crashing into a wall"
Snakes, on a plane.
I think this is brilliant.
99 wolft balloons
Are the 3 little pigs on the other side of the window?
I like the symbolism that can be derived from it. Whether "wolves in sheep clothing" was itself had meaning to the artist, I wouldnt base my interpretation around that so much. Regardless, some pretty entertaining comments on here. Structuralist or non.
I like being able to read several interpretations into this.
I am sad for the loss of the lives of the animals to produce this, but hopefully, they will be the sacrificial lambs necessary to get us to look at ourselves in the style of Aesop.
