New Scarf

According to Nikkei, a group of researchers at Keio University has made a scarf that changes color to match that of the wearer's clothing by using 100 optical fibers, light-emitting diodes and a color sensor.

Part of the technology they use sounds similar to Chameleon Object and RGBy; however, what was developed at Keio is designed for a very different purpose: fashion. As an example: if the wearer has on a blue shirt or jacket, for example, the scarf automatically starts glowing blue. I'd guess this new scarf could get even smarter in the future.

If you remember, this research group, led by Akira Wakita, has also developed a shirt that changes color from blue to red according to the wearer's body temperature.

Some prototypes were pure fancy. A men's jacket and women's dress designed by Akira Wakita of Japan's Keio University displayed luminous codes that relay body temperature, just in case you want your loved one to know how hot you really are. (Wired, August 2005)
