ARENAE , by Marco Cadioli, is a photo-reportage from the Massive Multiplayer Online Role Playing Games Quake III, Enemy Territory and Counter Strike. The 35mm B/W pictures dramatically look like classical pictures of war (just like the pictures of war we see in magazines may look like those we see in video games.)

The Mmorpg worlds have their own autonomous rules, you've got to learn them to be able to move and survive. The photographer entered these ARENAE as an "embedded" reporter, helped by an expert of the game. He takes pictures of the battles, the faces of the gladiators, the corpses left on the ground, the war scenarios, etc.

ARENAE is part of the Internet Landscape project that presents a series of reportages on the net landscapes currently in construction.
