An open-channel, ambient soundscape

Strangely Familiar. Unusual Objects for Everyday Life. Part V.
Speak Out, by Tristam Sparks and Andreea Chelaru (with Ana Camila Amorim), tries to solve the problem you face when you want to talk with a friend but are afraid to phone at a bad time. This "always-on" audio channel between you and your friend keeps the intimate link alive and functions somewhat like a live chat room. A panel of microphones and speakers creates an ambient soundscape which offers an impression of what is happening in your friend's room. At any time, you can choose to virtually step in his/her space and converse with your buddy as if s/he were in the room with you. |
