Food company Dole has introduced a new service that allows mobile phone users to check vegetable information while shopping: where the product comes from and how it arrived on the shelf, along with cooking tips. The service only works on items packaged with a "QR'' barcode, a super-code storing the information. The shopper needs a mobile equipped with a camera and scanner to read the codes. Do you have a reference for this claim? The Dole link does not describe this. Your reference also does not have any credible references to Dole press announcments, etc.
You're quite quite right.
I did check the Dole website too. I thought I wouldn't publish it since as you write there's no press annoucement. But the news seemed credible: Asahi proved quite trustworthy so far and the news is not that unbelievable (check the TraceabiliTea entry, for example.)
So I published it, but I'm also ready to publish any news proving it's a fib.
